Car Crashes: What Do You Do If You’re Involved In One?
Posted by Paula in Classic Cars (November 28, 2007 at 3:24 am)Try as you may, if fate has already destined you to be part of a car crash, you would be involved in one no matter how safely you drive. For people who have been involved in car crashes, there are those who strongly state that the whole incident was not their fault but the other driver’s. And there are instances when this rings true.
So in case you are in a car crash, what do you do exactly?
Car crashes are no times to lose your cool and lose your head. In fact, dreary as the whole experience may be, you should be able to keep your head in its right place and be vigilant of what is happening around you.
In case you see a car crash or are involved in one, try to put your vehicle to a halt somewhere where it is safe and clear. However, there are times when you are requested not to move your vehicle until the proper authorities come, then do not move your vehicle even for just a little inch.
When you are safely parked, stop all engines. Then safely get out of the car and check the passengers and driver of the other car (or cars) involved in the car accident. Make sure that everybody is okay. If not, start calling emergency services. It is also very important that you contact the police.
One of the important things you should always have in your car emergency kit are retroreflective triangles to mark the scene. You should notice that you would find such triangles in almost all car crashes.
While waiting for the police, take out your notepad and start writing down the details of the incident. Make sure that you note the time of the crash as well as the date and the weather, how many people were involved and their names, what vehicles were part of the crash and the plate numbers, and the license numbers of the other party.
Make sure that you also get a copy of the police report.
