Hybrid Cars And What The Blind Say About Them
Posted by Paula in Cars (November 28, 2007 at 3:34 am)We all know that hybrid cars are essentially good for the environment. For most hybrid car users, they can make their vehicles run for some distance without having to use conventional gasoline. Instead, the vehicle runs on pure electricity thus there are no harmful emissions sent out to the environment.
However, there seems to yet be an alarming issue against hybrid cars. Although the issue may not be applicable for most of us, it still is something that a certain community in our society fears about. This community is the blind and visually impaired individuals in our society. Now, the blind are starting to show the rest of the motoring world the disadvantages of the vehicle which has gained a reputation of being the answer to the problem of rising fuel costs.
You see, when hybrid vehicles run at slower speeds, these do not emit really loud noises. In fact, the blind and the visually impaired sometimes find it hard to decipher if there is a hybrid around or not. There is almost no noise so much so that even the blind who rely on their sense of hearing could not determine if there is a hybrid vehicle approaching their way.
Some tests have already been made. They were asked to stand by the sidewalk and somewhere in a parking lot. If they hear a vehicle approaching, they would rise their flags. Most participants became quite impatient and were already asking when the tests would start. The truth was, the hybrid vehicles had already been making quite a number of laps around the parking lot.
Currently, there seems to be no answer to this problem. In fact, it seems that the visually impaired are still in danger constantly from the environmental hybrids which are gaining much popularity in world of those who drive.
