Though funny cars are made for drag racing, yet not all funny cars can actually participate in a drag race especially the one made by NHRA; they have strict guidelines of the kind of funny cars that can join their drag race. Other than its basic safety equipments such as the ballistic blanket which covers the areas that are explosives and the twin – parachute that stabilizes and slow down the car when it crosses the finish line; there are other rules that funny cars has to comply especially when it comes to engine to participate in the race.
For funny cars to participate in BHRA drag race the engine must only be V-8s at 90 degrees with two valves per cylinder and superchargers are Roots type of 19 X 11.25 inches. Only single camshafts are allowed and must have a minimum of three inches ground clearance. All funny cars must weight 2,400 lbs including the driver with a wheelbase of 124 to 125 inches.
