Box Car Racer band got their name from a plane’s name which was ‘Bockscar’. This airplane was used by the B-29 bomber during the World War II at Nagasaki, Japan. “Bockscar” was then misspelled to a Box Car, adding to it the word Racer because the band leader want a three word name for their band; thus the name Box Car Racer.

Box Car Racer was formed by Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker both were from the band Blink – 182. The purpose for creating a new band was to experiment songs that were not suited with their former band Blink – 182. To complete the band, they got David Kennedy and Anthony Celestino. Box Car Racer plays emo, alternative rock and punk music. Since it was created in the year 2001; after their popularity, awards received, gigs and tours they decided to take a break in the year 2003 and until now have not reunited.
